Bridlington is a brilliant little seaside town on the East Yorkshire coast that feels like it’s got everything you need for a perfect getaway. Whether you’re after some good old-fashioned beach time, stunning cliffs, a bit of history, or some classic seaside food, Bridlington has got you covered. Here’s a rundown of some of the top things to do in Bridlington.
Explore Bridlington Old Town
If you’re someone who loves wandering around cobbled streets and soaking in a bit of history, you’ve got to visit Bridlington Old Town. It’s a place where you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, with its Georgian buildings, charming little shops, and quaint tea rooms. Even if you’re not a history buff, it’s fun just to stroll around and check out the old architecture.
The Old Town is also well-known for being a filming location for the film Dad’s Army (2016), so movie fans might find it cool to spot some familiar places. There are some information signs explaining which parts of the town were used for filming and how they transformed it into the fictional Walmington-on-Sea.
One of my favourite things to do in Bridlington old town is to visit the antique shops. There are a number along main street including a great multi-level one inside The Georgian tea rooms. Many of the pubs in the old town are also Grade II listed so when you’re wondering what to do in Bridlington old town – make sure to leave a bit of time to stop in for a drink or two at some of the traditional coaching inns.

The sands stretch for miles, making it perfect for long walks, and it’s dog-friendly too, so you’ll often see people walking their dogs at all times of day.
Fraisthorpe is a great spot for kite flying or windsurfing. It’s also one of those places where you can park very close to the beach (for a small fee), so it’s really convenient if you’ve got loads of stuff to carry. Plus, there’s a cute little café nearby called The Cow Shed if you fancy a coffee or a light bite to eat. If you’re planning what to do in Bridlington in Summer then visiting the beaches is obviously a top choice, but in the winter it’s still lovely to take a walk along the sand and watch the waves.
Marvel at the Bempton Cliffs

These dramatic chalk cliffs are part of the RSPB Bempton Cliffs Reserve, which is famous for its seabird colonies. It’s one of the best places in the UK to see puffins, which are cute, colourful little birds that nest in the cliffs during spring and summer and you can see diving around.
The cliffs themselves are stunning. You get breathtaking panoramic views of the North Sea, and if you’re lucky, you might spot seals bobbing in the water. There are several signposted walking paths along the cliffs for those who want to take in more views along the coast.
Hit the Bridlington Arcades
It wouldn’t be a trip to the British seaside without a visit to the arcades, and Bridlington’s arcades are full of retro charm that’s hard to resist. You’ll find the arcades dotted along the seafront, with all the classic amusements like 2p machines, claw grabbers, and air hockey. It’s all a bit of harmless fun, and in Summer you’ll see kids and adults alike playing on the colourful machines.
If you’re feeling lucky, you can even try your hand at some of the slot machines.. Just make sure to bring a stash of change with you because it’s far too easy to get carried away trying to beat them!
Take a Boat Ride
One of the best ways to really appreciate Bridlington’s coastal beauty is to take a boat ride. There are several different boat trips you can go on from the harbour, from short tours along the coast to longer trips where you can spot wildlife like seals and dolphins.
A popular option is a ride on the Yorkshire Belle, a traditional pleasure cruiser that takes you out along the coast and offers some great views of Flamborough Head and the cliffs. It’s a relaxing way to spend an afternoon, and if you’re lucky, you might catch one of those gorgeous sunsets that the Yorkshire coast is known for.

Bridlington has been a fishing town for centuries, and its seafood is still one of the freshest you can get – supposedly it lands the most shellfish out of anywhere in the UK. North Beach Fish and Chips is a popular spot if you fancy traditional fish and chips. For something a bit fancier, you might want to check out The Lobster Pot, which serves up locally caught lobster, crab, and other seafood dishes. There’s just something about eating fresh seafood right by the sea that makes it taste even better.
Visit Sewerby Hall and Gardens
For a bit of history, greenery, and fun, head over to Sewerby Hall and Gardens. This stately home, set in a beautiful cliff-top location, is surrounded by 50 acres of gardens and woodland, perfect for a relaxing walk. Inside the hall, you’ll find a museum with period rooms that give you a glimpse of life in the Edwardian era.
The gardens at Sewerby are also stunning, especially during the spring and summer months when everything’s in full bloom. It’s a great spot for families because there’s also a small zoo on-site, which is home to animals like pygmy goats, llamas, and miniature ponies.

It’s a great spot for photography too, with people there at all hours – photographing birds and the landscape during the day, and with tripods to capture the operational lighthouse at night time!
Other Little Gems
Don’t forget to check out the Land Train, which runs from Bridlington’s North Beach to Sewerby Hall. It’s a fun way to get around, especially if you’re visiting with children.
